new recordings soon

Posted by: Stephen In: stephen's blog

I ordered my new audio interface today, an Apogee Duet, which means we can start recording some new tracks soon.

Our original demo tracks (which will be available soon on our sound sample page… i promise) were recorded before Chris joined us so it’s about time we recorded some new ones. Our hope is to record enough over the winter to produce our first CD.

It’s been a while since I’ve done audio recording using a computer and I’m now a mac user so it should be a bit of a learning curve getting my head around the new software. The sound in my house is nice and warm as the walls are wood lined but each piece has a double scallop so there are no harsh reflections. We’ll be using Rab’s Rode NT2 microphone which should give us a nice sound through the Apogee and hopefully we won’t have to shell out on a dedicated mic pre-amp.

We’ve decided to stick with the multi-tracking option for the moment primarily because of space and financial reasons. We could set my house up as a studio using each room as a seperate booth, but then we run into headphone mix issues never mind the extra inputs needed and it all becomes complicated and expensive. I know it is possible to get more inputs for the same price as the Duet, but all the reviews talk about the sound quality being the best you can get for the money, so 2 channels it is.

So.. watch this space for new Pigtown Fling recordings!

Been catching up with some of your sounds: great! Did you get your oil after that serendipitous meeting in Oban?

Hi Chris. Glad you like the tunes. Haven’t got the oil yet, I’ve been stuck in the house with a sick wee boy and a pretty hefty cold myself. Looking forward to my first salad dressed with it!

  • Stephen: Yeah, it is a great tune. It's tunes like this that make me want to get a banjo!
  • David Brooks: This is a great tune. Evie Ladin, the banjo player for the Stairwell Sisters, plays a driving, syncopated version that is the engine for the tune. I
